The Wing Chun Dummy Head: New Tools For New Challenges
Wing Chun is the most popular Chinese Kung Fu style in the world, and it's training dummy (Mook Yan Jong) one of the most easily recognized martial art training tools; a staple of martial art schools, traditional and modern.
The popularity of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and "MMA" (mixed martial arts), makes the double leg take down a threat for all stand up fighters. A successful takedown is often the the beginning of the end for the stand up fighter.
So, what to do? I saw two practical options.
1. Learn a submission, or grappling style (incrementally improve on a
weakness); or
2. Make it more difficult to be taken down (build on a strength).
I chose the second option, and invented the Wing Chun Dummy Head to increase the odds of staying on my feet and avoiding the takedown.
